There are basically three different size scales for hats: the European (metric), the British and the North American scale. In Europe, the head circumference is measured in cm, so hat sizes range from 52 cm (very small) to 64 cm (large men’s size). In Great Britain, the head diameter is measured in inches. The sizes range from 6 3/8 to 8 (inch). In North America, the British measurement is also used, but the hat sizes there are always 1/8 inch larger than a hat of the same size in Great Britain.
